BIM-MEP AUS Begins Its Next Chapter with Transfer to VBIS

Virtual Buildings Information System Pty Ltd (VBIS) is pleased to announce that, from 15 October 2026, ownership and operation of BIM-MEP AUS has transferred from AMCA Australia to VBIS.

This milestone marks an important new chapter in the evolution of BIM-MEP AUS and reinforces its long-term future as Australia's leading digital engineering and Building Information Modelling (BIM) initiative for the building services industry.

Since its establishment in 2010, BIM-MEP AUS has brought together contractors, consultants, manufacturers, educators and industry practitioners to create a shared digital standard for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services.

Through industry collaboration and innovation, BIM-MEP AUS has developed trusted digital content, tools, standards and workflows that have been adopted across hundreds of projects throughout Australia.

As a specialist provider of digital asset information standards and data management solutions, VBIS will provide the dedicated focus and expertise needed to further develop BIM-MEP AUS and support its growing role within the built environment.

“BIM-MEP AUS began with a simple belief: our industry should shape its own digital future. Sixteen years later, that vision has been realised through the commitment of contractors, consultants, manufacturers, trainers and volunteers who built it for the benefit of the entire industry,” said Benjamin Hawkins, AMCA Australia Chief Executive Officer.

“Moving BIM-MEP AUS to VBIS is a natural next step, ensuring it has the focus and support needed to continue growing and delivering value to industry.”

Nathan Semos, VBIS Executive Manager said, “Today is an opportunity to recognise the remarkable legacy of BIM-MEP AUS and the significant contribution made by those who have invested their time, expertise and passion into its development over many years.”

“Together, BIM-MEP AUS and VBIS create a clear and complementary digital strategy, with BIM-MEP AUS focused on project delivery and VBIS focused on data management.”

What this means for BIM-MEP AUS subscribers

The transfer will not affect existing subscriber arrangements.

Current subscription terms, fees, access arrangements and services remain unchanged. Subscribers will continue to access BIM-MEP AUS content and resources through their existing account and login credentials via the BIM-MEP AUS website.

From today, VBIS will assume responsibility for subscriber administration, including customer support, billing enquiries, subscription renewals and ongoing service delivery.
