VBIS Accredited with BUILT - 637 Flinders Street, Melbourne
As one of Australia’s largest private construction groups, Built has a national presence in Australia, as well as internationally in New Zealand and the UK. Founded in 1998, Built have developed a reputation as being the most responsive and client focused partner in the industry that work to solve complex problems for clients.
Working to advance the industry and forge a new way forward, Built are committed to investing in and developing Digital Engineering practices that add value not only in the design and build process but can also be used by end users during operate and maintain phases of an building life.
Challenge:
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is used extensively in construction projects however the maturity of BIM can vary between organisations. This provides challenges for head contractor organisations such as Built to collect data in a consistent way which can be then used for downstream services that add further value for their clients. With multiple organisations all working on their own data sets, ensuring accuracy of data being provided also becomes a challenge.
Opportunity:
637 Finders Street Melbourne project, a commercial PCA A-grade tower, provided another opportunity for Built to further advance digital engineering deliverables for clients. Built understand the importance of having consistency in data contained in a BIM model during construction. Virtual Buildings Information System (VBIS) worked with Built to help their project contractors understand the importance of data classification and apply the VBIS Standard classification correctly to the relevant BIM objects across the project. This aims to provide a golden thread of asset data which can be easily entered by contractors during the construction phase which could then be used downstream. The ability to collect information throughout the build process minimises data waste and unlocks additional opportunities for their clients.
Why VBIS?
The Virtual Buildings Information System (VBIS) standard, backed by Government, is easy to understand and adopt. The 4 level structure provides consistency for all maintainable assets within the built environment. Virtual Buildings Information System have also been able provide training and support during the adoption process to help improve the overall maturity of the industry.
VBIS has also helped to provide data quality assurance by reviewing and certifying the data classification with the model ultimately providing the model used at 637 Flinders Street with a VBIS accreditation via VBIS Accredited.
637 Flinders Street Melbourne project has achieved VBIS Accredited status. This means that the BIM data set has been configured and achieves the VBIS Standard which is vital step in achieving data confidence and integrity in the industry.
If you would like an advantage in the industry, then look at VBIS Accreditation for your project.
